ISO/AWI 56007 Innovation management — Tools and methods for idea management — Guidance

Innovation is an important factor in the life of companies and helps them maintain their competitive advantage in the battery. One of the challenges for companies in the field of innovation is how to optimize and effectively exploit the creativity of employees and also organize their innovation capabilities. Employee creativity is an unlimited source of values and competitive advantage. This resource can be managed and brought to the highest level in the form of idea management process.

Idea management is the process of gathering and developing new ideas that are used in response to a problem, challenge, or need, and ultimately lead to the discovery of new opportunities. In organizations, idea management is a formal and structured procedure or process for producing, evaluating and implementing ideas that lead to innovation and organizational change on a large scale.

Due to the special importance of idea management in the organization and especially in its innovation processes, different methods and tools are used in each organization according to the context in which it operates and the current thinking and culture. Choosing a method or tool that fits the characteristics of the organization is very important and strategic, which directly affects the performance and results. Executive managers, including innovation project managers, must have the appropriate skills in selecting methods and tools for managing ideas and lead the organization’s innovation teams in the designed direction.

There are different generations of idea management. From creating a suggestion box to software that systematically develops ideas. All the tools and models presented are all trying to stimulate human genius and creativity, which is the driving force of innovation in the organization, and to grow and develop under its guidance.

The idea management process is a specialized and complex process from the time its goals and strategies are formulated in the organization to its commercialization so that its benefits can be achieved, and requires the tools and knowledge contained in the ISO 56007 (ISO 56007) document. A) ISO 56000: Innovation Management System – The proper implementation of a management system or mechanism (such as: quality management system) requires knowledge of the conceptual and operational framework of that system and its appropriate planning for each platform, such as an organization. Hence, this document provides the terms, definitions, concepts and principles of innovation management and its systematic implementation.

B) ISO 56001: Innovation Management System – This document provides the executive requirements and audit of the Innovation Management System in each operating platform (such as: organization, company, factory, workshop, startup, etc.).

C) ISO 56002: Innovation Management System – Innovation Management System – This document serves as a guidance document, the generalities of an efficient and effective innovation management system or mechanism. These generalities include the design, deployment, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the innovation management system that can be exploited in any operating platform (such as: organization, company, factory, workshop, startup, etc.).

D) ISO 56003: This document provides a framework, methods and tools for cooperation and innovation participation as a guidance document. In this document, issues such as: measuring the entry into partnership, challenges of cooperation and partnership and interaction between the parties and different types of cooperation and innovation innovation, regardless of the type and size of the organization, are included.

E) ISO 56004: Innovation Management System – This document presents the concepts, benefits and evaluation framework of innovation management. It also describes how to plan and implement an innovation management evaluation, regardless of the type of innovation (such as: product, service, process, etc.).
